Sustainability in Every Shipment: How Sackmaker Reduces Packaging Waste

Sustainability in Every Shipment: How Sackmaker Reduces Packaging Waste

At Sackmaker, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a key part of how we operate. We recognise the impact our industry can have on the environment, and we’re committed to reducing that impact across every aspect of our business. One important way we’re doing that is by improving the sustainability of our own packaging and delivery process.

Whether you’re ordering a single pallet of sacks or a full container load, you can be confident that every shipment from Sackmaker is packed with the planet in mind.

30% Recycled, 100% Recyclable

All our delivery packaging is designed to align with our environmental goals. We use:

  • 30% recycled content in our pallet covers, boxes, and wrap to comply with the UK’s Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT)
  • 100% recyclable materials, including PP pallet covers, cardboard boxes, and strapping
  • Widely recyclable polypropylene fabric for our pallet protection, one of the most sustainable plastics in circulation

This helps both us and our customers reduce reliance on virgin materials, lower emissions, and minimise waste going to landfill.

Less Packaging, Smarter Packing

We also believe in using as little packaging as possible, without compromising on the safety of your goods. Our team carefully optimises every shipment to:

  • Reduce packaging volume
  • Maximise load efficiency
  • Minimise packaging waste for you, the customer

This means fewer boxes, less wrap, and less packaging for your team to handle and recycle, without risking product damage or delivery issues.

Strong, Reusable, and Sustainable Components

We carefully choose materials that can be reused or easily recycled:

  • Second-hand wooden pallets are reused wherever possible, helping extend the life of timber products
  • Our high-strength tensile strapping is 100% recyclable and designed to secure loads without excess use
  • Heavy-duty pallet covers are waterproof, reusable, and made from 30% recycled PP fabric
  • Smaller parcels are shipped in 60% recycled cardboard boxes, sealed using starch-based gummed paper tape—fully biodegradable and plastic-free

This means you get secure, professional packaging with a low environmental footprint.

Going Digital to Cut Paper Waste

Wherever possible, Sackmaker has moved to digital documentation to reduce unnecessary printing. We now:

  • Email delivery notes, invoices, and order confirmations
  • Digitally store and share certification, printing proofs, and technical data
  • Limit physical paperwork to only what's legally required or customer-requested

This saves not only paper and ink, but also the energy and emissions associated with producing and transporting printed documents.

Part of Our Bigger Sustainability Mission

These packaging initiatives are part of a broader company-wide push to reduce our carbon emissions and improve environmental performance. By making smart, sustainable choices throughout our supply chain, we aim to support customers who share our values and want to improve the sustainability of their own operations.
